Be Spiritual - Episode 15

Episode 15 features my conversation with Bill Kennedy, a relatively new UU.

Bill seems driven on his spiritual quest – although he’s not really comfortable using the term spiritual. Bill’s path has taken him from the Congregational and Methodist churches of his youth to Judaism and now Unitarian Universalism, where he identifies with Religious Humanism.

Becoming a UU, Bill has found a church that brings him calmness and peace, freedom to explore his many religious questions, and the inspiration to be "better than I am."

Be Spiritual - Episode 11

In this episode, I talk with a dear friend, Patricia Rose. Patricia is a long-time member of the First Unitarian Church of Dallas, which is where we met when I lived in Dallas.

Patricia's spirituality is an eclectic blending of themes: her Jewish roots, the Latin Mass, Buddhism, and activism — all tied together by Unitarian Universalism.

Be Spiritual - Episode 10

In this episode, I talk with Sue Chadwick, who came to the UU church to give her children an identity and stayed for the community.

Sue's spirituality is grounded in nature and fun. The latter becomes obvious listening to her wicked sense of humor (wicked as in the New England usage).

Her hope for her life is simple, yet profound: that she can bring some joy and levity into people's lives.

Be Spiritual - Episode 3

In this episode, Roy Goodman shares his spiritual journey from Judaism to atheism. Roy's views were shaped by the shadow of the Holocaust; the apartheid of South Africa, where he was born and grew up; and Israel, where he attended college.

Places stir Roy's sense of awe at the universe and life, and he finds meaning in connection and relationship. Interestingly, Roy ascribes evil to a lack of connection — particularly when it springs from the belief that my truth is better than your truth.
